Welcome to the 8th Underground Cinema Film Festival

A champion of emerging filmmakers, Underground Cinema has the belief that no matter what the film’s budget or the director’s vision it’s the filmmakers passion that drives a film.

As technology allows greater access to short films as well as filmmaking tools, an increasing number of people are turning to short filmmaking as a form of expression and an opportunity to explore creative freedom. The fact that we received 400 more submissions in this category than last year speaks to that. Within them we saw a wave of truly original and outrageously distinctive films united by their uncompromised spirit. This year we will present a new generation of adventurous independent filmmaking, in which boundaries are explored, pushed and often broken. The creative means employed in these films will take audiences on a wild ride towards the future of cinematic storytelling.

The festival this year is firmly focusing on indie films from around the globe.  Traditionally we have hosted a selection of filmmakers throughout the festival week.  This year we have decided to cut the workshops which means that we can include more entries.  As a result we are now hosting our biggest film festival ever with exactly 100 films being screened over 4 days.

At this years festival you can now get a day pass for a brilliant selection of international short and feature films.  It's a fantastic opportunity to get to see some international indie film making.  I would encourage anyone that has an interest in international film to come along and support these film makers.  We've kept the price for this ticket as low as we can at €6 for the entire day.  We have also introduced the same priced ticket for a host of brilliant documentaries that will screen on the third day of the festival

We have also kept our ticket prices at low, with online booking even cheaper then front of house booking.  We have also introduced an affordable festival pass for €50 (online).  This pass will get you in to everything over the four days of the festival and is great value for money

The 8th Underground Cinema Film Festival takes place in the magnificent Royal Marine Hotel in Dun Laoghaire from August 31st  to September 3rd.  We are really looking forward to seeing you there
