Welcome to the 10th Underground Cinema Film Festival

A champion of emerging filmmakers, Underground Cinema has the belief that no matter what the film’s budget or the director’s vision it’s the filmmakers passion that drives a film.

As technology allows greater access to short films as well as filmmaking tools, an increasing number of people are turning to short filmmaking as a form of expression and an opportunity to explore creative freedom. The fact that we received 400 more submissions in this category than last year speaks to that. Within them we saw a wave of truly original and outrageously distinctive films united by their uncompromised spirit. This year we will present a new generation of adventurous independent filmmaking, in which boundaries are explored, pushed and often broken. The creative means employed in these films will take audiences on a wild ride towards the future of cinematic storytelling.

Once again the festival this year firmly focuses on indie films from around the globe with an incredible selection lined up for you over the three days of the event. We will be opening the festival this year with Brian O'Neill and Paul Bushes feature debut Killers Within.  Both Brian and Paul have been submitting their work to Underground Cinema since we first started 10 years ago and we are delighted to be screening their debut indie feature

We have a lot of international film entries in again this year and as usual we do not charge in to see any of the international entries.  This is to encourage more film makers to view the work of international artists and study the style and technique of international indie film makers

Last year we introduced the Mini Comic Con to the festival.  It was such a success we've decided to bring it back again on a much bigger level.  We have a huge number of vendors attending the festival on the Sunday with a selection of fantastic comic and film related memorabilia.  Some of the vendors that will be there this year include Dublin City Comics and Collectibles, Celtic Comics, We've Got Issue Comics, Jaconi Crafts, Outpost Creations, The Crafty Mama Store, KGS Props, Crafty Like a Fox, Tracey and Lisas Cakes and Comics to name but a few.

The 10th Underground Cinema Film Festival takes place in the magnificent Royal Marine Hotel in Dun Laoghaire from August 31st  to September 1st. We are really looking forward to seeing you there
